Are we ready for next generation of console game?
This is the question that executives from Sony and Microsoft’s Home and Entertainment division must have been asking themselves. With profit increase of 77% and sales increase of 90% by Nintendo, if I were the executive from Sony and Microsoft, that is the question that I will definitely ask myself.
Compare to Playstation 3 (PS3) and XBox 360, Wii does not present a better graphic than them, and in actual fact, the video display resolution is only 480p which is as good as Playstation 2 (PS2). So why do Wii fare better than PS3 and XBox 360 on a quarter to quarter sale?
This current demand over supply situation for Wii shows us that better graphics does not matter, it is about the playability of the games produced by the consoles. XBox 360 and PS3 are still played by sitting on your couch and trying to press button on the control as fast as you can. This is so yesterday, so last generation.
With Wii, you play your game with a Wiimote not by sitting there and pressing buttons but by moving your whole body to simulate the motion that you want. This I call the next generation of Video Console; and Yes, we are ready for the next generation of console game, but that does not mean only better graphic.
